I got a Hisense H7 55' TV a while ago on sale open box at Best Buy for around $450 (it's $599 when they put it on sale once in a while, $699 normally)Don't read into the reviews as those people have no clue how good of a deal this TV is. It's about as cheap as any other 55' TV out there, grant it it's not 4k. If you can find it open box, it's still a great deal for a TV. A good quality Android stick (newer processor) will run you $80 or more.
Paired with a standard 55' TV would run you about the same. It even has blue tooth, which can sync with any bluetooth speakers out there and comes with 2 remotes (Normal/Bluetooth). Even when it gets out dated, like you said you can just buy a newer stick or roku, no big deal since I bought it for under $500 anyways.
The TV is cheap much like other non-smart TV's. The TV will last 15 years while the software might get outdated, I can always just buy an android stick or new device and achieve what you are arguing. Smart TV doesn't mean you can't plug in a new device. You're argument is no smart TV becaus eit's cheaper to buy a non-smart and buy upgradable devices.What if the TV is just as cheap as a non-smart TV?
Plus this TV gains the ability of an android device meaning. It can be upgraded with unofficial kernels/roms much like android phones can be. I can still upgrade my smart TV with add-on devices like any other TV. I do in home computer repair for a living.

I've had my hands on a big variety of them.Even the high end Samsung smart TVs have clunky, bloated, slow UIs. The remotes are a cluster fuck of proprietary features nobody ever uses. Trying to find which menu button brings up the basic fucking TV settings menu can be a chore. Same with changing inputs.After having used so many of them I can assure you I would pay more NOT to have that feature on my TV.
